I learned years ago that there is only one way to solve money problems for a Christian. That way is to follow the directions of the Lord, be it written or spoken.
I have heard lots of stories about this subject but the ones that convinced me the most were the ones that I lived, on the subject of Tithes.
Over twenty years ago when my children were still in elementary school I struggled with my finances.
I owned a townhouse and had a dependable job with a decent pay scale for the type of work that I was doing. However, old debts and new ones seem to weigh me down. I tried to file bankruptcy but was told that I did not have enough debt to file, although it was weighing me down tremendously. I later believed that it was a set up from God.
I originally thought that I did not have enough left over after paying my bills and expenses to pay my tithes because of the financial stresses. After struggling for years with this issue I decided to go ahead and pay my tithes. My take home pay at the time was about 920.00 every two weeks. I remember saying, “A hundred dollars more per pay check or less a paycheck will not hurt or help my finances one bit so I might as well pay my tithes. So every payday I took $100.00 off the top of my check before I paid anyone else and paid my tithes, and before long things changed. One day after praying for money I received a $1300.00 check in the mail. I began to get promotions at work and the kids social security check that came from their father increased. It was one thing after another and money problems were history. As I continued to pay my tithes I continued to receive favor from God.
Through the years from time to time I would error in moral issues or areas where I knew that I shouldn’t be and my finances would come up short so I would forgo my tithes. I remember saying to myself “I’ll just miss this one time and get back on track the next paycheck”, but that is not what happened. It would take me months to get back on track and finally I would say, “forget it I’m going to pay my tithes”, and everything would just come back in line. That happened a few times before I realized what was really going on.
There was another time where I was having money issues when I paid my tithes on my income after I retired. I rented out a room in my California Home, because at times I would be gone for six or sevens months at a time. I need some work done on my home in Arkansas and not enough money to take care of it. I remember praying, “Lord help me, why am I having money problems.” I heard, (immediately) “bring all the tithes into the storehouse.” At that point I remembered that I had not been paying tithes on the renters income. I vowed to pay it right away, not knowing where the monies were coming from for the much needed repairs. Two days later I received $3500.00 that I was not expecting, so of course, I paid tithes on that too.
You can’t beat God giving,
Until next time
